Creative Detour
What: You know you’re creative. The question is, how much more could you unlock?
The Creative Detour is a playful, hands-on workshop for creative people who want to break out of familiar patterns, shake up their thinking, and discover new ways to generate and develop ideas. Through a series of unexpected experiments, visual challenges, and creative exercises, you’ll explore how perception, curiosity, constraints, mistakes, and even the unexpected can become fuel for new ideas. There’s no pressure to create something “good” and no single right answer. The goal is to get your creative instincts moving, open up new possibilities, and maybe discover that your creativity has been waiting for a detour. Through The Creative Detour, we will awaken the spirit of exploration, inviting you to break out of familiar patterns, experiment without fear of getting it wrong, and discover creative possibilities you may never have considered.

Bill Watson
Watson is a Frederick-based multidisciplinary artist, gallery manager, curator, and arts advocate who has worked with and served several arts organizations throughout the region. A working artist with a restless curiosity, he continually explores different techniques, materials, and methods, borrowing ideas from unexpected places and discovering what works through experimentation. He also has aphantasia, meaning he doesn’t form mental images in his mind’s eye, an experience that has helped shape his unconventional approach to making art and thinking creatively.
